FOLLOWING another outstanding year of business, laundry chemicals manufacturer Christeyns, which has had its roots in Bradford for almost 20 years, has secured a multi-million pound deal with Camplings Linen, a commercial laundry in Great Yarmouth.

The deal is worth £3 million over the next 10 years, helping secure the 135 jobs at its Bradford base for the foreseeable future.

Christeyns’ UK operation dates from 1998 when it bought the Oils & Soaps company, which was founded in the city in 1848. With its headquarters still in Rutland Street, in Bradford, the UK arm of the company now includes cleaning chemicals specialists Cole & Wilson, Oscrete construction products as well as Warrington-based Klenzan who specialise in food hygiene.

Dave Aveyard, operations director at Christeyns UK said: “We are delighted to have been chosen by Camplings to be their supplier to their new facility. We have worked very closely with the team from the design stage right through to commissioning.

“This new unit will enable Camplings to offer their customers outstanding quality and service from one of the most innovative, environmentally friendly and technically advanced facilities in the UK.”

The company adds that, for Christeyns, it represents the longest ever customer contract signed to date, helping secure jobs and investments at the Bradford headquarters and paving the way for further multi-faceted collaborations.

Christeyns won the contract based on its innovative, groundbreaking Cool Chemistry, a patented innovation that combines equipment and chemistry to deliver improved whiteness and increased disinfection whilst washing at lower temperatures.

The company also installed £750,000 worth of detergent dosing and monitoring equipment along with Water and Energy equipment that allows the laundry to operate steam free, recycling both water and energy. This will reduce water consumption by around 40 per cent and total energy consumption by 30 per cent.

The investment also included the installation of Laundry Dashboard, a tool for measuring the efficiency of both people and processes, providing updates on current productivity against targets.

Nick Garthwaite, managing director of Christeyns since 2010 and who is also vice president of Bradford Chamber of Commerce said: “Christeyns is passionate about all it does and progressive in its thinking, with a continued focus on the environment and the challenges of producing innovative solutions. This keeps the company at the cutting edge of the business sectors in which it operates and thus able to offer real improvements and value for money for its customers.”

The global company is a privately-owned family business with 13 factories worldwide.

Over the past decade, the turnover has increased by an average of 17 percent annually, reaching a consolidated total turnover in excess of 300 million euros in 2016. The Christeyns group now employs around 850 people in sales offices spread across 30 countries.
