A CITY centre community organisation held an event today to celebrate LGBT History Month and raise awareness around LGBT issues in South Asian communities.

At the event, organised by Lifeline Bradford, guests from a diverse background celebrated the contributions made to society by people from the LGBT community.

The event was also to raise awareness of the problems some LGBT people in Asian communities face, often being afraid of revealing their sexuality due to the fear of being judged or disowned by their families.

Asifa Lahore, Britain’s first Muslim drag queen, attended the event as a special guest and spoke to the audience about his story.

Mehnaz Bibi, from Lifeline, said: “The event was absolutely wonderful.

“Asifa was so inspirational, a lot of people found it very emotional and uplifting.”
