TSB is to close its branch in Otley this summer.

The axing of the branch in Manor Square in June is part of a package of 29 closures of what the branch called 'quieter' branches.

It has prompted the town's MP Greg Mulholland (Lib Dem, Leeds North West) to write to TSB's chief executive Paul Pester urging him to reconsider.

Mr Mulholland said: "It is not acceptable to close this branch in a market town which serves a much wider area, including people in the agricultural and rural communities in the countryside surrounding the town.

"This would be a huge blow for local businesses and residents.

"I would therefore ask that TSB seriously reconsiders this move, taking into account the needs of local residents, and I would urge them to keep this valuable local resource open."

The loss of the Otley branch will mean TSB customers will have to travel to Ilkley for any over-the-counter business.

A TSB spokesman said: "There will still be a TSB branch within two miles of 42 per cent of the population.

"There will also be no job losses as a result of these changes, with all partners in the closing branches being offered roles in other nearby branches."
