CONCERNED residents are calling for a 10mph speed limit and access-only restrictions on three connected streets they claim are being used as a “rat-run” by speeding drivers.

A total of 27 people have signed a petition calling for changes to be made on Bull Royd Drive, Bull Royd Crescent, and Bull Royd Avenue, in Fairweather Green.

The request is set to be discussed by members of the Bradford West Area Committee at City Hall tomorrow night.

A Council report going before the committee states that all the roads on the Bull Royd estate are unadopted highways, maintained by the residents not the local authority. As public rights of way, the report outlines that access-only restrictions would require a Traffic Regulation Order only enforceable by the police.

Council figures show one slight collision on the three roads in the last five years.

A Council report in response to the petition states: “The introduction of a 10mph speed limit would not be permissible within current legislation.

“An access only restriction requires the processing of a Traffic Regulation Order and is only enforceable by the police.

“Such Orders are not easily enforceable or regularly policed due to resource issues.”
