THE Broadway shopping centre has donated more than £650 to the Bradford Hospitals Children’s Charity and pledged to raise a further £10,000 in 2017.

In December, the team at The Broadway raised £670 through a number of different fundraising activities for their partner charity, which was handed over by the Bradford centre’s general manager Ian Ward last week.

To raise the money, The Broadway centre management team took on staff from their retailers in a charity football tournament.

Money was also donated by customers throughout December when The Broadway was visited by festive characters such as Mrs Claus, Bjorn the Polar Bear, Mayhem and Mischief the cheeky elves, and the Reindeer’s Rockin Party.

The £670 donation is in addition to £1,000 donated by The Broadway in July, and £740 raised by Mr Ward himself when he climbed Wales’s highest peak, Mount Snowdon, in September.

The donations will go towards enhancing the new children’s wards which are opening shortly at Bradford Royal Infirmary, providing little extras to make a stay in hospital as comfortable as possible. This includes contributing to a multisensory room for children with complex needs, enhancing a multifunction room for dining and play as well as adolescent rest facilities, and ensuring each bed station is as homely as possible.

Mr Ward said: “The amazing work which is carried out by Bradford Hospitals Children’s Charity makes a huge difference in the lives of so many families in the community at a time when they need it the most. I’m very proud for the Broadway team and our customers to be able to contribute in any way possible.

“We’ve got some really exciting events lined up to ensure that we raise even more money for the charity in 2017, and that money will be vital as the children move into their new ward in March.”

Hayley Collis, Bradford Hospitals Children’s Charity fundraiser, said: “Continuing to work with us as their preferred charity is wonderful news. The staff at Broadway and their retailers have been inspired by the new hospital wing building which is nearing completion now.

“The new Children’s and Young Persons In-Patient Unit is due to open in March and we know there will be a wish list of items that will help to make the experience of our young patients even better.

“Broadway’s commitment to raise a further £10,000 will go a long way to helping these wishes come true.”
