DRIVERS have been warned to always pay attention to the road after a car smashed into a parked vehicle.

At 5pm on Thursday PC Dave Hitchcocks was patrolling on a police motorcycle on Woodside Road in Wyke when what he described as “an inattentive motorist” just a few metres behind him crashed into a parked car.

Both cars suffered significant damage and are likely to be written off.

The driver was shaken up but uninjured, and police say he was dealt with at the scene.

PC Hitchcocks said “While no-one was injured, this could have ended very differently for either one of us. As the driver of any motor vehicle, your attention should be on driving safely 100 per cent of the time -no messing around with auxiliary in car entertainment, no using mobile phones and keep your hands on the steering wheel at all times.

"If you need to adjust something in your vehicle, think twice before you take your attention away from the road and consider pulling over briefly if you need to. The consequences of not doing this can have a huge financial impact on you or another and they can also lead to the potential for prosecution in the courts. These pale into insignificance when the consequences can just as easily be the loss of a life.

Insurance details were exchanged between the vehicle owners.
