A MURDER investigation has begun after a man was attacked and died in Gomersal.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire police said: “Officers were called to an address in Shirley Terrace shortly after 6.30pm on Friday.

“On arrival, they found a 43-year-old man who had been attacked.

“The man was treated by paramedics but was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

Detectives are appealing to anyone who was in the area around Shirley Terrace around 6.30pm on Friday evening who may have any information to come forward, by calling the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team via 101.

A 47-year-old woman and 26-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody.

Shirley Terrace was cordoned off in its entirety when the Telegraph & Argus visited the scene. Both ends of the residential street were sealed off by police tape and blocked by police vehicles as well.

Officers were telling young children on scooters not to use a nearby ginnel.

Police officers could be seen going in and out of a redbrick semi-detached house half-way along the road.

One resident of nearby Shirley Road said he had been shocked to hear a murder investigation was under way.

He said: “On your doorstep, you don’t like it.”

Another man living in Shirley Parade said he had seen the emergency services begin to arrive shortly after 6.30pm on Friday, when he left to pick up a takeaway. He said when he came back, at around 7.30pm to 8pm, the place was swarming with police vehicles.
