THE Bradford family of a woman who fell seriously ill on a Christmas holiday in Morocco are appealing for financial help after her travel insurance was declared void.

Susan George, 60, suffered a collapsed lung in Marrakech on Boxing Day, which then led to two heart attacks.

Her daughter’s boyfriend, Kris Hardy, has set up a gofundme webpage to try and raise money to pay a medical bill that has already reached £25,000.

Mr Hardy and Susan’s daughter, Michelle Harpley, of Eccleshill, have flown out to Morocco to be with her.

“We didn’t know if Susan was going to make it,” said Mr Hardy. “Her family flew out to Marrakech to be there and give her all the support she needed.

“This was a very traumatic time for all the family, as you could imagine. Fortunately, Susan has now woken up and is on the mend slowly. But it’s still going to be a long process.

“The reason why I’ve set up this page is that there have been some insurance complications and Susan’s insurance is void.

“We need to find the money to pay the bill – which is already £25,000 – and now we need to find the money for medical repatriation to get Susan back home and in hospital in the UK where she belongs.

“The language barrier is so poor, and the bill just keeps going up – therefore I’ve set a target at £50,000. This could be more or could be less, we just don’t know yet.

“It kills to ask but, as a whole family, we just haven’t got that sort of money.

“We are going to give every last penny we have and we just would appreciate any amount of donation. They will not let Susan home until the medical repatriation and the bills have been paid. Please help us to get Susan home.

“We know it’s a big ask but we need to get her back so she can get the right care back home.”

So far, fundraisers have donated just under £1,500.

Miss Harpley said: “We just want to say thank you to all the support and messages we’ve had – we are overwhelmed by your kindness. We’re all hoping and praying that things are going to be okay.

“Every night I’ll be saying my prayers – please let my mum be in yours. To brighten our lives back up again, we just want to hear that laugh and see her smile again.”
