A JUDGE has handed out jail sentences totalling more than 17 years to four men who were linked to two separate drug operations in Bradford.

Among the four to be jailed were 27-year-old Mohammed Sakif Khan and 29-year-old Shabaz Ahmed who are already serving nine-year prison sentences for an horrific axe attack at the Sainsbury's petrol station in Greengates back in October 2015.

The pair were part of a gang of four men who attacked 34-year-old Barrington Depass in front of terrified shoppers after he sought refuge in the petrol station kiosk.

Mr Depass' left hand was almost severed by one of the axe blows and he also suffered a fractured skull, a broken leg and deep cuts to his body.

Khan, of Fagley Road, Bradford, and Ahmed, of Hendford Drive, Bradford, both pleaded guilty to causing Mr Depass grievous bodily harm with intent.

At Bradford Crown Court the pair were told they would have to serve extra time in prison after they admitted involvement in a conspiracy to supply two kilogrammes of high-purity cocaine.

The stash of drugs, which could have been worth more than £200,000 on the streets, was found hidden in the dashboard of a car which had been driven up to Bradford from London by Albanian Kastriot Cela.

Prosecutor David Brooke said police officers arrested Cela in April 2015 after the car was stopped in Dalby Avenue, Bradford.

Cela, 36, was jailed for more than five years for his role and Khan and Ahmed have now been given four-year prison sentences which Judge Neil Davey QC said would have to run consecutively to their existing terms.

Khan was also caught in possession of two mobile phones while in prison and Judge Davey imposed an additional six months for those offences.

After police stopped Cela's car they spotted Shoaib Ali in a passing taxi and when they arrested him he was found to have £34,000 in cash on him.

Judge Davey said Ali, 23, of New Fields Walk, Barkerend, had been meeting Cela that day to pay for the cocaine.

Ali, who had no previous convictions, was sentenced to five years and two months in jail after he admitted being concerned in the supply of drugs.

In June 2015 police officers intercepted a Ford Mondeo on the M62 as it was driving from Bradford to Manchester with half-a-kilo of heroin in it.

Mr Brooke said the drug had a wholesale value of about £11,500 and officers arrested car driver Mohammed Fowad Khan and his friend Loqman Amirzadah.

Amirzadah, 27, of Chatsworth Road, Pudsey, was jailed for four years after he admitted conspiracy to supply the heroin.

The court heard that Amirzadah had his recruited his friend Khan, 29, that day and Judge Davey said he had stupidly agreed.

Khan, of Folkstone Street, Barkerend, Bradford, pleaded guilty to being concerned in drugs supply, but his two-year jail sentence was suspended for two years.

He must also do 200 hours unpaid work for the community.
