JOANNE Middleton, the European gold medallist in the International Mixed Martial Arts Federatione Championships, joined volunteers at Bradford Cathedral for what is becoming an annual event of providing Christmas treats to underprivileged children in the area.

It is the second year that Bradford Cathedral has joined with Bradford Cinderella Club to hold the Shoe Box Appeal.

Canon Mandy Coutts said it was sad that there was still so much need to provide gifts to children who for whatever reason would not get anything at Christmas.

Terry Pearson, trustee of Bradford Cinderella Club, said he was overwhelmed at the generosity and kindness from across Bradford with donations and gifts that have been donated.

Those who have given donations include pupils at Wycliffe CE Primary School in Shipley, and Baildon Juniors Football Club, as well as Team Fulinkazan, Keighley and Worth Valley Rotary.

"It really is appreciated that we get the support we do," said Mr Pearson.

Miss Middleton, who joined volunteers wrapping the presents, said she was delighted to assist with the appeal which provides for children who would struggle to get anything at Christmas.
