ORGANISERS are on their marks for a major Manorlands money-spinner.

The countdown has begun to the 2017 Keighley BigK 10k run and walk – the 10th to be held by the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice.

Entry is now open for the event, which will again be staged on Mother's Day, March 26.

About 1,100 people took part in this year's extravaganza, together raising around £60,000.

Runners will again set off from Victoria Park and follow a circular, multi-terrain route around the town.

The event starts at 9am, but people should arrive earlier to register and collect their timing chip.

Following a successful pilot this year, staged in conjunction with Bingley Juniors FC, there will also be a 5k event.

Participants in that will start from Lund Park at 9.15am.

They will join the 10k runners to finish in Victoria Park.

"The BigK 10k has grown into the largest mass-participation event of its kind in the district and we're hoping for a bumper turnout as it celebrates its 10th anniversary," said Manorlands-based Sue Ryder fundraiser and event lead, Andrew Wood.

"Early-bird entries are open, providing people with the chance to maybe get one as a Christmas present for someone.

"The event is geared towards people of all abilities, from elite athletes to those wishing to walk the route.

"And the addition of the 5k gives youngsters, families and others who may feel ten kilometres is a bit far for them to be a part of the day.

"We're hoping to also get other junior sports clubs and local schools involved."

Two main corporate sponsors – Convenience Hire and Keighley Ford – have already signed-up, but a third is being sought.

Keighley BigK T-shirts will be presented to all finishers and various awards will be up for grabs.

And to mark Mother's Day, all mums completing the event will receive a red carnation.

Early-bird adult entry of £12 is available until February 28, after which it will be £15 subject to capacity.

For under-18s, early-bird entry is £7, later rising to £10.
