FESTIVE runners donned antlers for Bradford’s seventh annual Reindeer Stampede today.

More than 360 people took part in the five-kilometre fun run, which was in aid of the Epilepsy Action charity.

As well as wearing antlers, many runners wore fancy dress such as Christmas jumpers, and elf, Santa Claus and reindeer costumes.

The event – on a crisp, bright and dry winter morning – took the hundreds of ‘reindeer’ around a circular route of Lister Park, Manningham. The winner was Mick Pearson, of Doncaster.

There was also a 400-metre mini-Reindeer Stampede for children aged under eight years, as well as a choir and a brass band.

Carl Foster, fundraising events officer at Epilepsy Action, said: “It was wonderful to see so many runners joining us in our new venue.

“With everyone donning reindeer antlers, it really was a brilliant festive atmosphere. So far, this year’s run has raised more than £5,000 which brings the total amount that the Reindeer Stampede has raised over the years to over £35,000.

“That is an amazing total which supports Epilepsy Action to improve the lives of people affected by epilepsy both in West Yorkshire and all over the UK.

“Thank you to all our reindeer runners, as well as all the marshals and volunteers who helped on the day. Thanks also go to the All Together Now Singers and the Hot Aire! concert band who boosted the festive atmosphere with their tunes.”

The fun run had been held in Roberts Park, Saltaire, for the previous six years.

Mr Foster said: “Over the past six years, the Epilepsy Action Reindeer Stampede has gone from strength to strength. Runners from all over West Yorkshire have joined us to don antlers, kick start the festive season and raise funds for a brilliant cause.”

Epilepsy Action aims to improve the lives of people affected by epilepsy. The charity said there are 21,000 people with epilepsy in Yorkshire.

Last year the charity directly helped 1.4 million people across the country. For more information about epilepsy and the charity, visit epilepsy.org.uk.
