TWO men from Bradford have been arrested in connection with an attempted carjacking in Halifax.

The incident happened yesterday at about 9.30am when a 39-year-old woman was approached by two men in the car park at Sainsbury's.

They threatened the woman and stole her car keys, said police. The car had just been locked with the woman's young child inside.

The men took the victim's car keys and fled the scene in another vehicle, believed to be a silver Ford Fiesta, in the direction of Queensbury.

Police officers forced entry to the woman's vehicle to rescue the child, who was unhurt.

Detective Inspector Gary Stephenson, of Calderdale CID, said: "Clearly this has been an incredibly frightening and traumatic experience for the victim and her young child, who were thankfully uninjured. They are being supported by specially trained officers.

"There will have been a number of people visiting the Sainsbury's on Thursday morning, and I would appeal to anyone who was there around the time of the incident, and parked near to the recycling centre, who may have seen anything suspicious, or witnessed the incident itself to come forward.

"I would also appeal to anyone who may have seen a silver Ford Fiesta travelling towards Queensbury in the time after the incident, or who may have seen a vehicle matching the description in the Queensbury area, to speak to police. Enquiries are ongoing."?

The two men arrested are aged in their 30s and remain in police custody today.

Police are not linking the crime to carjackings that happened in Wibsey last Saturday, when a mum plucked her baby from her silver Volkswagen Polo GTI car moments before two masked men stole it, and in Idle on Tuesday.

The Wibsey incident happened outside Shezzaan's Restaurant, on Halifax Road, at about 9.20pm. The Idle robbery happened on The Grove at about 9.15pm and saw a black Volkswagen Golf stolen.

Anyone with any information on the Halifax robbery can contact Calderdale CID via 101 quoting 357 of December 1.

Anyone with information on the Wibsey incident can contact Bradford District CID on 101, quoting crime reference number 13160712452.

Information on either crimecan also be passed anonymously to the independent crime fighting charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
