THE manager of an ice cream business told a murder trial his cousin attacked him with a sharp object after a row over a mop and bucket at the family factory.

Idris Khan said he was left bleeding and in shock after the assault by Mohammed Nasar shortly after 10pm on April 14.

Mr Khan said there had been arguments and fights in the extended family after marriages between three sets of cousins broke down.

The relatives lived in neighbouring homes on Cecil Avenue, Great Horton, Bradford, and many worked at the Rossi’s Ices factory, on Richmond Road, near the University of Bradford.

Mr Khan said the business was owned by Sarfraz Khan and Imran Khan, and many family members drove the ice cream vans.

The jury at Bradford Crown Court has heard that Sarfraz Khan, 35, was fatally stabbed when violence broke out behind Cecil Avenue shortly after Idris Khan was wounded.

Five brothers, who are his cousins, plead not guilty to murder.

Amjid Ali, 39; Amir Ali, 19; Tariq Mahmood, 26; Mohammed Nasar: 32; and Sajid Hussain, 33, also deny causing grievous bodily harm with intent to Aftab Khan and Asad Khan. Nasar alone denies wounding Idris Khan with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.

Aftab Khan suffered a punctured lung and other stab wounds and Asad Khan received a deep cut to his face and stab wounds to his chest.

Idris Khan told the court yesterday he was working in the factory that evening.

He heard shouting outside and saw an argument between three van drivers, brothers Nasar and Amjid Ali on one side, and their cousin, Basharat Khan.

“It was just over some stupid mop and bucket,” Mr Khan said.

He said he was walking home after 10pm when Nasar swore at him and attacked him in the street.

“He lashed at me. He went for me. He just started to punch me. It felt like a sharp object had hit me,” he stated.

Mr Khan said he punched Nasar back in self defence before going indoors.

The trial continues on Monday.
