A POLICE watchdog has rated the West Yorkshire force as ‘good’ for the second year running.

HM Inspectorate of Constabulary judges all 43 UK forces each year for effectiveness, efficiency and legitimacy.

The PEEL efficiency inspections, which were introduced last year, are graded from ‘outstanding’ to ‘good,’ ‘requires improvement’ and ‘inadequate.’ HM Inspector of Constabulary, Mike Cunningham, said it was the second year West Yorkshire Police had been judged to be good.

Mr Cunningham said the force was working with partners to determine what future demand would be and how best to meet it. It had also developed a new way of ensuring that current demand was met, which had led to it increasing resources to protect vulnerable people.

He said West Yorkshire was recruiting new staff and officers, ensuring they had the right skills to tackle any gaps they had identified in their existing workforce, and had invested in new IT systems.

He added: “I am satisfied West Yorkshire Police has sound financial plans in place and has made significant efficiencies and savings.”
