A MAN is being quizzed by police after a shop assistant was held at knifepoint.

Police were called to the Co-Op in Station Road, Baildon, yesterday at 3.31pm after a man armed with a knife entered the shop and took money from the till.

A police spokesman said: "The man was said to have ran off towards Station Road with a small quantity of cash. The female shop assistant was unharmed.

"Following enquiries in the area, officers attended an address in Shipley and arrested a 26-year-old man on suspicion of robbery. He remains in custody at this time while enquiries continue."

The Co-Op has appealed for anyone with information to go to the police.
A spokesman for the Co-Op said: “I can confirm that a robbery took place at our Baildon store on October 30.
“The police are investigating, and, as with any incident such as this, we would appeal for anyone with any information to come forward.”
Baildon ward councillor Debbie Davies (Cons) said: “I feel really sorry for the staff.
“Luckily no one was injured but it would have been a terrible experience for the employee. Anyone could have been in that shop at the time, a child or older person could have got in the way. It’s the last thing you’d probably expect to happen.
“It’s a big concern for businesses and the community that our local shops are targeted like this because we need them to stay open.
“It’s not long since another shop nearby shut because of crime and because the people who were running it didn’t feel safe enough to keep it on. They retired early.
“We’ve got quite a problem in Baildon at the moment with burglaries and other crimes and we need to get a grip of it. We need more CCTV in the area.”
Anyone with information about the robbery at the Co-Op is asked to contact Bradford District CID on 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
