TWO of the title contenders in Division One of the Bradford League met in a heavyweight clash – with Highdale A taking the honours 6-4.

Highdale and Dewsbury Tog A were both unbeaten as they try to keep pace with defending champions Embassy Police A and it was a fine all-round team effort from Highdale which just made the difference.

Richard Lightowler took the individual honours for Tog with a treble but they were always playing catch-up as Highdale led 4-1 and 5-2, with Richard Whiteley and Jonaton Caspi both winning two while Peter Morgan added a single.

Tog took the last two singles through Lightowler and Mark Land but Highdale sealed victory as Whiteley and Caspi took the doubles in straight games.

In Division Three, Rastrick continued their fine start to the season with their third win from four matches and Brian Banks was their talisman against Baildon A.

Banks did not drop a game as he registered three singles, while Mick Whitham took two and Colin Priestley added one as Rastrick were comfortable 7-3 winners.

Thornbury and Baildon C are next to each other in the Division Four table and a predictably even contest between them ensued.

Thornbury were never behind as David Wilson took all his singles and Kaleem Afzal won two as they built up a 5-3 lead.

Yet Baildon fought to the end and, after Jerry Harkawy had won two and Shirley Toulmin and John Jennison one each, they finished with a share of the spoils. Harkawy and Toulmin squeezed home 11-8 in the fifth game of the doubles.
