TWO lanes of the M62 near Bradford were closed earlier today because a man was threatening to jump from a bridge.

Police were called to junction 25 (Brighouse) at about 3.40am, to what a spokesman described as a "concern for safety of a male on a motorway bridge".

Officers closed lanes three and four on the westbound carriageway between junction 26 (Chain Bar) and junction 25.

Police said the man was plucked to safety and detained at about 6.40am.

Traffic built up on both carriageways of the motorway because of the incident, and also on surrounding routes.

A lorry also broke down in the queues of traffic, causing further problems.
