TWO men who dealt class A drugs on the streets of Bradford have been locked up for a total of six years and four months.

Peter Kane, 40, who had previous convictions for drug dealing, and was involved in dangerous driving during a police pursuit while on bail, was jailed for four years.

Mohammed Nawaz, 24, was imprisoned for two years and four months.

Prosecutor Syam Soni told Bradford Crown Court that police were carrying out observations of two suspected drug users, in Providence Street, near to Bradford city centre, on April 26 this year, when a BMW car approached. It flashed its lights and sounded its horn to attract the attention of the users, and one of them got in the car.

Kane was the driver and Nawaz the front seat passenger.

Mr Soni said the officers tried to apprehend them, but Kane reversed at speed and collided with a lorry behind him.

Nawaz was seen to throw a plastic bag, which was found to contain heroin, into the back seat of the car. A second plastic bag, containing heroin and crack cocaine, was found in his sock. At the police station, a nominal amount of heroin was found on Kane after he was strip searched, and a plastic bag of heroin and £130 cash was found in Nawaz’s hoodie.

The street value of the drugs was £805. Mr Soni said that three days later, while he was on bail, Kane activated speed cameras while driving a Peugeot car in Manningham. Officers instructed him to stop, but he accelerated away. During a chase, Kane drove through red lights, causing oncoming vehicles to brake, contravened a no entry sign, drove on the wrong side of the road and travelled at 50mph in a built up 30mph zone.

The pursuit ended in Whitby Terrace, Girlington, when Kane drove out of a give way junction and collided with a Toyota Yaris. The woman driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to BRI. Her Toyota, worth £1,200, was written off. The court heard Kane had 35 previous convictions, including seven for drugs matters. Nawaz had no previous drugs convictions.

Kane, of Hydale Court, Low Moor, and Nawaz, of Haslingden Drive, Heaton, both pleaded guilty to two charges of possessing class A drugs with intent to supply. Judge Neil Davey QC told them they HAD played significant roles in street dealing and were out to make as much money as they could.
