A HUSBAND and wife team are organising a charity fundraiser in aid of victims of a devastating hurricane in Haiti.

Jazz and Aman Gill will host a family fun day at the Fairmont, Bradford, next month - and they are hoping to raise thousands of pounds.

The event, on Saturday, November 12, will include dancing, live music and food, among other things.

Hurricane Matthew tore through the Caribbean earlier this month and ravaged Haiti. Winds of more than 100mph, torrential rain and floods wiped out entire villages in the country and killed at least 1,000 people.

Mr Gill said: “We had November 12 set for an event for ourselves and our business - but then we saw the British Red Cross Haiti Appeal.

“It is about raising money for people that are less fortunate, people who have lost their homes, people whose lives have been devastated.

“Many people have died.”

He added: “If it was my family that had been affected, I would want someone to help me.

“We want people to come and help. It doesn’t matter whether the money raised goes towards food rations or rebuilding a school that has been knocked down - as long as we are helping in some way.

“The more people that come together to make this event happen, the more people we have putting money in the buckets, then the more money we will raise for the people devastated by the disaster,” said Mr Gill, 28.

The fun day will start at noon on November 12 at the venue on Ventnor Street, off Leeds Road.

From 1pm to 1.45pm, DJ Desi and Manj Sagoo will host a DJ workshop, before Bradford’s Punjabi Roots Academy provides entertainment between 2pm and 2.45pm.

From 2.45pm to 3.45pm, there will be a henna/Mehndi session, before an upbeat salsa fusion session between 3.45pm and 4.45pm.

A live band called Mumbai Vice will close the event with a performance from 5pm to 5.45pm.

Mr Gill said: “It is free event, but we will ask for a donation at the door as people come in.

“It will be a fun family event with dancers, singers, DJs, face-painting and a raffle. Hopefully we will have a British Red Cross representative to explain what they are about.”

He added: “Reed Specialist Recruitment in Bradford are donating a chocolate hamper for our raffle.

“Wrapped Couture is donating a fun filled candy cart. Events Wrapped is donating wedding centre pieces for the raffle, Bibi’z Kitchen is donating free Indian food in return for donations, and Simraj Kaur is donating an Indian designer outfit for the raffle. Zarina’s House of Cakes is donating carrot cakes in return for donations and ParminderSagooPhotography is providing photography.”
