A FORMER Lord Mayor of Bradford has been charged with misconduct in a public office.
Yesterday, police confirmed that they had brought the charge against Cllr Naveeda Ikram (Little Horton), who will appear before magistrates in Leeds on November 17.
Cllr Ikram, who has been suspended from Labour during the investigation, said she was relieved the more serious allegations against her, of perverting the course of justice and financial irregularities, had been dropped after being investigated for more than a year.
She said: “It’s not what I was hoping to hear of but anyway, I’m relieved that my and my family’s wait has come to an end and I look forward to fighting my corner and getting justice.”
The charge is understood to relate to allegations Cllr Ikram failed to declare a pecuniary interest.
