A NURSERY that was recently opened has been judged outstanding by Ofsted inspectors.

Thornton Lodge Day Nursery was given the top rating in every category after an inspection last month.

In 2014 inspectors judged BonBon private nursery, on James Street, as inadequate. The nursery shut not long after, and the building was soon bought by 1st Safari Day Nurseries, which runs several other nurseries in the area.

It opened as Thornton Lodge last August, and has space for 71 children. Ofsted visited the nursery for the first time early last month.

It has now released its inspection report, which says: "The quality of teaching is superb. Staff demonstrate a genuine passion for their work. Children's behaviour is impeccable.

"Partnerships with parents are superb and information is shared very effectively."

Manager Gareth Rider said: "We're very happy with this report. As a nursery you always have to be Ofsted ready.

Councillor Richard Dunbar (Lab, Thornton) said: "It's fantastic news to hear of Thornton Lodge's recent outstanding inspection. The progress made in recent years is admirable and is testament to the strong leadership displayed by management and the high quality teaching to ensure all children who attend achieve the highest possible outcomes.

"As elected members we keep in close contact with the management and after a recent visit we were inspired by the obvious pride all staff took in ensuring the children do well and enjoyed their time at Thornton Lodge. It was also obvious how highly parents thought of the place."
