A PARADE of 220 lanterns lit up Lister Park, with reflections focused on the former Drummond Mill in Manningham, which burned down in a fire earlier this year.

Cecil Green Arts, based in Darley Street, after its premises were destroyed in the Drummond Mill blaze, themed this year’s parade on memories of the mill.

Smaller lanterns bore the names of Drummond Mill workers, while some of the larger ten-foot ones were globes with ships moving around, representing people coming to work in Bradford’s woollen industry.

The procession, which was preceded by two hours of live street theatre and dance performances, went around the park, to the bandstand, finishing with phoenix fire show.

Judy Connor, of Cecil Green Arts, said the event on Saturday night had proved popular, with 1,000 people turning up and 600 taking part in the parade.

She said: “It was a very poignant theme for the parade, after the terrible fire. Given the circumstances, the fire show, with the rising phoenix, was evocative.”
