GREEN Party councillors took delivery of a pair of golden wellies from environmentalists as part of a campaign for Bradford Council to lead the fight against fossil fuels.
Shipley members Hawarun Hussain and Kevin Warnes received the wet weather footwear at City Park on Saturday from Usman Ahmed, of the Fossil Free West Yorkshire Pension Fund campaign.
The campaigners want the Council to take action to prevent flooding and to protect pensions by taking its investments out of companies causing climate change. A Council committee meets on Wednesday to discuss the issue.
Mr Ahmed said: “Bradford Council has taken an excellent first step by passing a motion to review the West Yorkshire Pension Fund’s fossil fuel investments. It can now take action against climate change.”
Cllr Warnes said: “Bradford Council needs to show leadership in its management of the Fund. We support this campaign.”
Cllr Hussain said: “We hope the committee backs our call for action.”
