A MAN accused of attacking a neighbour in his bed with a hammer has been cleared of wounding with intent.
A jury at Bradford Crown Court today unanimously found 22-year-old Aloysius Madugba not guilty of the charge after a two-day trial. He had denied the offence.
The prosecution claimed Mr Madugba rained blows on Philip Trueman, causing fractures to his leg and shoulder, wounds and multiple bruises, after he was woken at 4am by a hooded man stood by his bed, holding a hammer, in the block of flats where they lived in Hall Lane, in Windhill, Shipley.
Mr Trueman’s brother, Peter, who lived next door, claimed he saw Mr Madugba return to his flat.
But Mr Madugba told police, who found nothing incriminating at his flat, that he had not left his address.
He told the jury he had not gone upstairs to Mr Trueman’s flat. He did not know the brothers, or speak to them, and did not hear them shouting that night.
