A MAN is in hospital after he suffered serious injuries in an attack on a Bradford street during which a shot was fired.

Police confirmed a firearm had been discharged during the incident last night in Hollybank Gardens, Great Horton - after initially saying a gun was not thought to have been used.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman this afternoon said armed officers were called to an address in the street at about 8pm after receiving a report of a man with a firearm.

While they were at the scene they received further reports of what were thought to be gunshots and a man being assaulted.

They said a 21-year-old man had suffered serious injuries. He was taken to hospital where his condition is serious but stable.

A second man suffered minor hand injuries.

The spokesman said: "Following inquiries at the scene, police have confirmed there was a firearms discharge, but the injuries were not believed to have been caused by it."

Three men, aged 35, 37 and 38, have been arrested on suspicion of assault and remain in custody.

Police were still at the scene today.

Residents said there was a large police presence on the street.

This morning, two police cars could be seen at both the top and bottom of the street and three lines of police tape cordoned off the area.

A resident of Hollybank Road, who did not want to named, said: "It was at about half eight last night. Police sealed off a section of Bartle Lane and Hollybank Road.

"It was like a scene from an action movie and there were blue flashing lights."

He said there were eight or nine police vehicles "going off in all directions."

"I then saw three men being arrested. They were taken off in three different vehicles," he added.

Another Hollybank Road resident added: "It was scary, I've never seen anything like it before. Why did it happen here?"
