VANDALS have targeted a junior football clubhouse for the second time in five months, smashing through a wooden wall to steal and wreak havoc.

Police are investigating the latest break-in at the Baildon Trinity Dynamos ground which has left the club with unwanted costs and the possibility of having to install security cameras.

Youths are thought to have carried out the raid which took place on Monday night and in which a side door was forced and then wooden panelling behind it was ripped open.

A tea urn and confectionary were taken, trophies smashed and showers deliberately left on in a bid to flood the building.

Club spokesman Victoria Paterson told what had happened at the Dell, Cliffe Lane West, Baildon: “The door is sealed and somebody must have had a good go at it.

“It is covered with wooden panelling on the inside which lines a changing room and that was smashed so they could get in.

“Our tea urn was taken, some trophies were broken and all the sweets and chocolate bars were taken and then the showers were left on.

“To be honest we’re all a bit pig sick of this - it’s just selfish, jealous people and it’s no time since the break-in when all ofour kit and footballs were taken back in May.

“Since then we always clear the clubhouse out, so there’s never anything worth taking, but to protect it we might have to think about getting some security cameras,” she said

Police were at he scene yesterday as Dynamos’ chairman Rick Cockroft organised repairs and the building of a new brick wall to further protect the clubhouse.

“It’s disheartening, but of course we’ll continue. They won’t beat us and we’ll keep going for all the local kids. We’ve got six teams and on Saturday we had 70 youngsters down here with ages ranging from five to eleven-years-old and so nothing’s going to change and we’ll carry on for them.”

Ward Councillor Debbie Davies, (Con, Baildon) said she was saddened by the repeat attack:“It is so pointless and frustrating. Why do people need to destroy things that matter to their communities?

“These are volunteers just doing their best for local children. I shall be trying to find grants to pay for CCTV.”
