GARDENERS keen to get to grips with autumn jobs, but short of the necessary kit, can now join a new loan scheme being run by Baildon Community Link which is providing free tools.

"Were calling it The Toolshed Project," said Link manager Lucy Maddison.

"Bradford Council has funded a collection of new tools including a wheelbarrow, spades, forks, trowels, gloves and shears which community residents are welcome to come and borrow for particular jobs.

"It's done purely on a trust basis and of course some people have said we won't get them back but we believe they will be returned.

"All residents have to do is give their names and details and how many days they will need things for.

"To an extent it will be trial and error and if we get people bringing back more tools than they took, then we may pass those on to other projects like Tools For Self Reliance as we haven't got a great deal of space

"The Toolshed Project is now up and running and I know other community centres like Windhill are also doing it.

"The idea will spread by word of mouth and we'll also be doing some leafletting. Hopefully it's an idea that will grow and grow."
