AN ARTISTIC facelift has taken place at Bingley Pool where bright, dramatic murals have been installed as part of a range of improvements.

Friends of Bingley Pool (FoBP) are campaigning to save the pool and today the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Geoff Reid, will officially unveil the five large prints donated by local artist Jane Fielder.

“The pool is to remain open until at least 2022 and we are working with Bradford Metropolitan Council to improve the facilities for the local community, taking into account the results of our public survey, which was carried out in late 2015,” said Dr Jag Picknett of FoBP.

“Aside from structural and functional improvements we are keen to make cosmetic changes as well. This is part of phase one of work on the pool building to make it a nicer environment to be in.”

FoBP co-president with Dr Picknett, Anna Mdee, said: “Working together with the council has allowed us to do so much more than either of us could have done alone.

“These brilliant pieces of art and the redecorated changing rooms are the start of a bright future for Bingley Pool.”

Artist Mrs Fielder, of the Bingley Gallery on Park Road, said she was delighted with the result: “They are images of Bingley through the seasons and also a historic view of the town including the old Bradford and Bingley building.”

Ward Councillor David Heseltine (Con, Bingley) said: “This is fantastic and good news that the council has recognised the pool needs some care and attention.”

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, executive member for Environment, Sports and Culture, said: “We are pleased to be associated with the introduction of artwork by the Friends of Bingley Pool. We carried out a redecoration of the changing rooms and replaced some of the doors.”

Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Geoff Reid said: “The pieces are all of local Bingley landmarks and show what a bright, vibrant and full of life place Bingley is. I hope those who swim at the pool enjoy looking at them.”
