TWO motorcyclists placed other people in “jeopardy” when they rode off-road bikes around Bradford city centre - including through pedestrianised zones - a court heard.

Louis Titre and Devon Hendy were caught on CCTV as they weaved through Saturday shoppers and other road users on July 30 this year.

Prosecutor Elizabeth Wright told Bradford and Keighley Magistrates’ Court: “It was a prolonged course of bad driving.

“The safety of other road users and pedestrians was placed in jeopardy because of the number of other people about at the time.

“They are going around the town centre and then they go through the pedestrian area.”

The court was CCTV footage, in which Hendy and Titre can be seen riding along pedestrianised areas on Broadway and Charles Street.

They head towards Sainsbury’s Local before turning left into Charles Street, weaving in between pedestrians.

They then turn right onto Market Street and ride up Cheapside and Manor Row, before turning into Piccadilly, Darley Street and Godwin Street.

They were also caught on camera turning left off Hall Ings, from a right-turn lane and through a red traffic light, onto Bank Street.

The court heard that Titre had been given the bike as a gift that day and was “emotionally overcome and decided to take a ride in the town centre”.

Sultan Satti, for Titre, said: “I accept it is dangerous driving, but it appears to be at the lower end of the scale.

“There are no excuses for what they have done, but I have seen a lot worse. No-one was injured and there was no damage.”

Titre, 21, of Rhylstone Mount, Lidget Green, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance. Hendy, 18, of Longfield Drive, Cutler Heights, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving without a licence, and driving without insurance.

District Judge Richard Clews told the pair they would be sentenced at Bradford Crown Court and gave them both an interim disqualification from driving. Titre is already banned from the roads until December for a previous offence, the court heard.

District Judge Clews added: “Although the actual driving is not the worst this court has ever seen, it appears that they had no regard for anybody except themselves.”

Titre and Hendy were released on unconditional bail. They will be sentenced on September 20.
