AN APPLICATION to build 47 new family homes in Bradford has been granted outline planning permission by Bradford Council.

The proposal will see the a new estate created off of Romanby Shaw in Greengates, on a plot of land next to Eccleshill swimming pool.

Two four bedroom houses, 22 three bedroom houses and 23 two bedroom houses will make up the development, all with off road parking and seven visitor parking spaces along the ‘L’ shaped road.

The application was submitted by Leeds-based firm Acanthus WSM Architects, on behalf of Windsor Properties Ltd.

Now that outline planning permission has been granted for the site, a full application to build the 47 homes has to be submitted within the next three years.

Letters were sent to the occupiers of houses that surround the site to notify them of the proposed development, and in the plan’s design and access statement it said the proposals were “well received by the majority of residents, who want to see the vacant site developed to alleviate the current problems with anti-social behaviour”.

Councillor Brendan Stubbs (Eccleshill, Lib Dem) welcomed the development on the “eyesore” site.

He said: “We desperately need some more housing in the city, we’re about 20,000 houses short.

“This piece of land has been an eyesore for a while now and has attracted flytipping and anti-social behaviour, so putting houses there is one of the better ideas the council has had recently.

“I’ll be looking at the plan closely to make sure there are affordable homes included at the site.”

Cllr Stubbs did flag up the issue of school places, saying: “We have a problem with schools being expanded and extended rather than new ones being built.

“What we really need a new primary school; the council needs to step up and come up with plans for the community, and not just for schools.”
