THE Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Geoff Reid led a minute’s silence today in Centenary Square to mark events which have taken place in Pakistan and Macedonia over the weekend.

A suicide bomb attack at a hospital in Quetta, south-west Pakistan, killed 63 people and injured many more this morning, and at least 21 people were killed after a freak storm hit the capital of Macedonia, and a twin city of Bradford, Skopje, at the weekend.

The Lord Mayor was joined by deputy leader of Bradford Council Val Slater and a crowd of mourners for the minute’s silence.

The Lord Mayor said the council would be putting their heads together to see if there is any way could help the people in Bradford’s twin city of Skopje.

He said: “It felt right for us to gather in Centenary Square to hold the minute's silence following these events.

“We happily talk about ourselves as an international city, and when so many things like this happen, that make us shudder. There is no way we can say this is nothing to do with us.”
