TWO disabled athletes from Bradford scooped four medals between them at a cycling competition.

Ella Curtis won a gold and a silver, while fellow Bradford Disability Sport and Leisure (BDSL) competitor Stephen Thorne took home two silver medals. The cycling competition was held in Manchester.

BDSL fundraising officer Barry Thorne said: "BDSL is very proud. This was the first-ever time we have taken part in this cycling event, so it is groundbreaking for us.

Mr Thorne said Ella and Stephen would be competing in the cycling at next year's Special Olympics in Sheffield.

"If anyone would like to sponsor Stephen or Ella for next year's Special Olympics, it would be most welcome - for anything, such as training, kit and equipment," said Mr Thorne. "We are short of road bikes at the moment."

BDSL provides disabled people with sport and physical activity. Anyone who wishes to sponsor Stephen or Ella, or any of BDSL's athletes, can contact the charity on 01274 437093 or bsr1@btconnect.com.
