NO arrests have been made after car-jackers in Bradford targeted three vulnerable drivers, including a woman at knifepoint, in one day.

Beth Aleksander was threatened with a knife and had her black Volkswagen Golf stolen when she stopped at a red traffic light on Marlborough Road, Manningham, at around 7.45am on Wednesday.

The car-jacker was wearing a black hooded top, which was pulled over his face, had facial stubble and spoke with a Yorkshire accent.

In a further two car-jacking attempts, both within 20 minutes of each other, Rebecca Griffin, 34, was dragged from her Audi TT and left in the middle of the road after three men took her handbag, before fleeing when they saw police, at around 9.45pm in Barkerend Road, at the junction with Killinghall Road, Barkerend.

The men were wearing hooded tops, pulled down to cover their faces, and were believed to be Asian.

In the third incident, at the same place 20 minutes earlier, a man tried to open the driver's door of a black Seat Leon at traffic lights, but failed because it was locked.

The man was described as Asian, around six foot tall and slim. He was wearing an orange hooded top.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Our enquiries are continuing today into these incidents, which are being treated seriously and are being investigated by Bradford District CID officers.

"While we have had no further reports of similar incidents occurring overnight on Thursday, we continue to urge motorists to be vigilant when stationary in traffic and would similarly urge people to report any information about people acting suspiciously at road junctions."

Police added they are linking the two attacks in Killinghall Road with one other, but they are not linking them with the incident on Marlborough Road.

Shocked councillors have called for residents with information on car-jacking at knifepoint to come forward.

Cllr Sarfraz Nazir (Lab, Manningham) said: "It's shocking really.

"It's not something that you want to read, or happen to anyone, when you read how it happened.

"I would encourage anyone who is aware of this situation and may have information to get in touch with the police so they can make arrests.

"It's a terrifying ordeal."

Cllr Hassan Khan (Lab, Bowling and Barkerend) added: "It is a serious matter.

"My sympathies go out to the victims, they must have faced a horrible experience."

Witnesses should call Bradford District CID on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
