FIRE crews from Bradford and Idle spent more than an hour tackling a blaze in Peel Park this afternoon.

The callout was made at 4.15pm and when firefighters got there one of the changing rooms was ablaze.

A spokesman for Idle Fire and Rescue Service said: "It was well alight when we arrived with flames coming through the roof. It has completely gone. We spent a good hour dealing with it. We have no idea yet how the fire started."

The blaze was in the metal-clad building adjacent to a brick-built building which was not damaged.

Today, Aidy Bamford, investigating officer from Bradford Fire Station, said: “A cabin used as changing rooms was well alight when we arrived, and we found no gas cylinders in there, it was just changing facilities.

"The left door was off and on the ground, and the grass underneath was dead so it must have been off for about a week, so people will have been able to go inside. We have no exact cause for the fire, but it was not a natural occurrence.”
