Bingley Show drew some 12,000 visitors today said delighted organisers after another sunny celebration of country life and more.

"!t's been a perfect day, just what we needed," said David Hempel, vice chairman of Airedale Agricultural Society.

"Its all gone very well thanks to the enormous amount of effort by our committees and without their time, energy and effort we would not be able to stage an event of these proportions."

Mr Hempel said it was the first year the Members' marquee had been brought down to the edge of the main ring to make it more central and involved.

"Hopefully it will also encourage more people to become members and enjoy the comforts," he said, admitting that he was looking forward to a cool drink at the end of the day.

Shipley Conservative MP Philip Davies has not missed a show since becoming the local MP in 2003 and said: "This is very British occasion which brings all the community together and is one of the biggest events in the local calendar."

Councillor John Pennington (Con, Bingley) added: "This is one of the few truly legitimate country shows and is wonderful for everyone, especially families. "It retains our cultural heritage."
