STAFF at a Bradford recycling centre received a VIP visit from the Lord Mayor.

The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Geoff Reid, met staff at the Midland Road Household Recycling Centre to talk to them about the work they do.

The Manningham site is one of eight run by Bradford Council for residents in the district.

Last year the centre received 6,200 tonnes of waste of which 4,300 tonnes was recovered as recycling.

The Lord Mayor of Bradford, who visited the centre on Friday, July 22, said: "Ever since Midland Road became our local recycling centre I have been impressed by the service on offer.

"The staff are invariably courteous, helpful and willing to offer advice in a very supportive way.

"I wanted to flag up the importance of the sort of recycling that goes way beyond our domestic waste collections.

"This is a front-line council service which for many people in Bradford will be one of the few places where they find themselves in face-to-face conversation with council officers.

"Those who deal with our rubbish in this way deserve our congratulations when they maintain good standards of cleanliness and efficiency which encourage us to keep coming back."
