KEEN Pokémon trainers have been taking the streets of Bradford city centre since the release of the global gaming sensation Pokémon Go.

Landmarks have been turned into Pokéstops and Pokégyms and wild creatures are roaming the city, in the new augmented-reality game.

Pokemon Go players are tasked with physically exploring neighbourhoods and towns to find all the collectible critters, such as Bulbasaur, Charmeleon and Pikachu, using their mobile phones.

An on-screen map shows roughly where they are situated, but they can also show up randomly as people move around.

Players get an alert when a Pokemon is near and then use their phone camera to hunt and capture it. Augmented reality software is used to overlay the creatures on to the real-world surroundings.

Gamers can battle each other in City Park and go hunting for Pokémon in Centenary Square, up Darley Street and all over the city.

One of the most popular types in Bradford seems to be Drowzee, which pops up everywhere, along with other common creatures, such as Pidgey and Zubat.

Other less common Pokémon that have been spotted in the city include Gastly, Krabby and Slowpoke.

Pokéstops are dotted all over the city, at well known sites such as City Hall, the Bradford City fire memorial, and the Oastler Statue.

They also appear at some lower key landmarks, including the Market Charter by the Oastler Market, and the twinned towns bench in Tyrrel Street.

Pokégyms are based in City Park, at the leaf statue outside Bradford Crown Court, the Connecting the City sculpture, and in Little Germany, where local gamers can go and test themselves against other trainers in the district.

Different Pokémon crop up in different areas, and a bigger variety become available as players level up.

At places such as Lister Park and Harold Park, water-type and grass-type Pokémon will be more populous.

A Facebook group, called Pokémon Go Bradford, has been set up, allowing gamers in the district to share their latest catches and share tips about where to catch the best Pokémon.
