HEALTHCARE heroes walked the red carpet as Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust presented its ‘Oscars’ to dedicated staff.

Around 200 guests enjoyed the star treatment for the annual You’re A Star Awards at the Cedar Court Hotel last night as winners of the five categories – You and Your Care, Working Together, Quality, Value for Money and Patient Experience – received their recognition.

The awards acknowledged staff and volunteers from across the district and showcased the best examples of outstanding care across Bradford.

The winner of the Patient Experience Award category was Noel Brown, a health support worker who colleagues said “regularly thinks outside of the box” to find creative ways to support people with learning disabilities.

Mr Brown has been working with one client, Thomas, to help him overcome his fears of having blood samples taken. He found out former 007 Roger Moore was a diabetic and Mr Brown used a Bond theme to help Thomas overcome his fears of blood tests.

“We worked on a James Bond theme where I was a secret agent and Thomas was a secret agent. He set me tasks and I set him tasks. Thomas’s mission was to work towards his gold award, which involved him taking a blood sample and overcoming his fear,” said Mr Brown.

The event’s main supporter, Bradford-based Sovereign Healthcare Charitable Trust, provided £1,000 to the winner of each category to support their ongoing work.

The remaining category winners were: You and Your Care Award – Barbara Pitts, a volunteer Community Health Champion; Quality Award – Admin Services, who provide key support to frontline services; Value for Money Award – the Continence Service, dedicated to supporting people with bladder and bowel problems; Working Together Award – Primary Care Wellbeing Team.

Chairman of Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust Michael Smith paid tribute to health care professionals and volunteers across the Trust.

Mr Smith, said: “The You’re a Star Awards are a time to celebrate the work of outstanding individuals and teams over the last year. It is also an opportunity to pause and reflect on the excellent work carried out every day by many more unsung heroes across our organisation who really do go above and beyond the call of duty. Our final 15 are all worthy winners. Their dedication, enthusiasm and skill is making a real difference to the health and wellbeing for the people of Bradford, Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven.”
