A BUMPER set of activities is planned across the district this weekend from music to motors and re-enactments to reggae.

Shipley Street Arts Festival begins today and there will activities across the town until Sunday.

The theme of this year’s festival is storytelling and life size characters from classic children’s novels will be roaming the streets. For more details, visit shipleystreetarts.com.

Cleckheaton Folk Festival also takes place this weekend. On Saturday, at 11am, there will be a parade which starts at the fire station and winds through the town centre.

On Saturday, the fourth Bradford Ska and Reggae Festival is held from noon until 9pm at the Amp Bar at the University of Bradford Students’ Union. There be seven live bands, stalls and food.

In Otley, there will be English Civil War battle re-enactments over the weekend in Wharfemeadows Park. Battles will take place on both days from 2pm until 4pm.

There are also several carnivals and galas taking place.

Tomorrow, Wrose Carnival takes place in Wrose Recreation Ground from noon to 5pm, and Shelf Gala will take place at Shelf Hall Park from 1pm.

Clement’s Gate Madrasa in Lilycroft Road, Manningham, is holding an Eid Bazaar, also tomorrow, from 1pm to 4pm. There will be food, games, stalls and Indian head massage available at the event.

On Sunday, Rae Gala will be held in Northcliffe Woods, Shipley, from 2pm until 4.30pm, and Wilsden Gala starts at 1pm at Wilsden Cricket Club in Shay Gate.

A junior music festival is taking place in Oakwell Hall, Birstall on Sunday, featuring performance from local bands.

The free festival will run from 1pm to 4.30pm at the hall in Nutter Lane.

Craven Old Wheels will be taking a classic car rally to East Riddlesden Hall in Keighley on Sunday, from 10.30am to 4pm. There will be a variety of cars on show from the past century.

Oxenhope Straw Race will celebrate its 40th anniversary on Sunday with the annual race around the village starting at noon from the Waggon and Horses Pub, Hebden Bridge Road.

On Sunday, Saltaire will be holding its second historic bus running day, at Thomson’s Field in Coach Road.

There will be free bus rides around the town, as well as static displays and souvenirs, and the will also be the opportunity to ride on Shipley Glen Tramway, the oldest working cable tram in the country.
