A CHRISTMAS Day burglar is back behind bars after raiding another house two months after his release from jail.

Amaan Rashid, 25, was imprisoned for 18 months at Bradford Crown Court yesterday for smashing his way into a property in Highfell Rise, Keighley, on May 21 and stealing £200 in cash, a laptop computer, car keys and a watch.

Rashid, of Penfield Grove, Clayton, Bradford, was on double licence at the time, for burgling a house in Cote Lane, Allerton, Bradford, on December 25, 2014, and trafficking in Class A drugs.

He was jailed for ten months last October for the burglary after serving a sentence of five-and-a-half years, imposed in 2012, for possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

Rashid was part of a gang whose £400 haul on Christmas Day included a Playstation, Nintendo Wii, a whisky hip flask and a Black and Decker power tool. The owner of the house returned on Boxing Day to find the back door smashed in and presents stolen from under the Christmas tree.

Rashid, a married man with two children, was freed from prison on March 24 this year.

The court heard he was caught for the Keighley burglary after leaving behind the tip of a plastic glove with his DNA on it.

He and his two accomplices waited for the householder to go out before kicking in a door, doing £1,150 damage. A neighbour saw the burglars driving off.

Rashid at first denied the offence but pleaded guilty on a video link to Leeds Prison.

His barrister, Ian Howard, said he burgled the houses because he was unable to get a job after his release from prison for drug dealing.
