A GIRL of 15 was sexually abused by a man who chatted her up when she was wearing her school prom dress, a jury heard.

Shapoul Ali, 33, bought the teenager whisky and molested her when she passed out after drinking from a little glass bottle he gave her, it is alleged.

Ali, of Marlborough Road, Manningham, Bradford, is on trial denying two charges of sexual assault, three counts of sexual activity with a child and an offence of perverting the course of justice.

Prosecutor Jayne Beckett told Bradford Crown Court yesterday that Ali approached the girl in the street after she had attended her school prom in June last year.

She was expecting to stay at a friend’s house in Halifax after the event in Bradford but she was asked to leave by the girl’s parents.

While she was waiting for her brother to collect her, Ali drove up and began talking to her, Mrs Beckett said.

The girl, who was a stranger to him, refused to give him her phone number but got into his car when they again met by chance.

It is alleged that Ali gave her a cigarette and bought her whisky in a pub, telling her to pretend she was his girlfriend.

He is accused of then locking her in his car and sexually assaulting her.

The jury was told the pair met up again three times when the sexual activity was consensual.

The police were alerted in August last year when the girl went missing from a school residential course after an argument with other pupils.

Mrs Beckett said she met Ali and he locked his car door and put the seat back. After drinking from a little glass bottle he gave to her, she went to sleep and woke with her clothing and hair dishevelled.

When she arrived back at the school in a confused state, she was taken to hospital and the police were alerted.

It is alleged that Ali had sexually assaulted her while she was unconscious.

After Ali was arrested and bailed, he continued to meet up with the girl, the jury was told. She frequently messaged him and they saw one another again after five weeks.

By now, she was 16 and, although they had sex, it was not now illegal, the court heard.

Ali is accused of trying to persuade the teenager to drop the charges against him.

He told her: “How could you get me arrested? You should have been more careful,” Mrs Beckett said.

She told the jury the girl was attracted to Ali but feared he might be using her.

“He only had to click his fingers and she would do what he asked,” Mrs Beckett said.

Ali made no comment to the police when he was arrested and questioned, and he denied matters from the outset.

The trial continues.
