A 25-YEAR-OLD man who racially abused a garage employee after the police impounded his uninsured car has been jailed for a total of 12 months.

Laurence Edwards was on bail for his second offence of dangerous driving when he threatened and insulted Hardave Singh after he refused to release the vehicle because a form had not been correctly stamped by the police.

Edwards, of Brunswick Street, Cullingworth, threw his coat on the floor at the premises in Hope Road, Sheepscar, Leeds, on November 7 last year and racially abused Mr Singh, Bradford Crown Court heard today.

He pleaded guilty to a racially aggravated public order offence and was jailed for four months.

Edwards was locked up for eight months, to run consecutively, for dangerous driving on Tong Street, Bradford, and the A650, on July 14, 2015.

Prosecutor Chris Moran said Edwards caused a collision by repeatedly overtaking and cutting in front off a former girlfriend because she had a man in the car with her.

Bailed again, Edwards hit a new partner in a heated argument at his home on April 1. He pleaded guilty to common assault after punching her in the face.

He had 15 convictions for 24 offences, the court heard, including robbery and burglary.

Edwards’ barrister, Ken Green, said he was an immature and short-tempered young man.

He worked for a construction company and hoped to be re-employed there after serving his sentence.

Edwards spent about six weeks in custody after the assault and had pleaded guilty to all the offences.

He was also banned from driving for three years and four months.
