TWO Bradford nurseries are celebrating after having been judged “outstanding” in recent inspections.

Canterbury Nursery and Children’s Centre, based in the Canterbury estate, rebounded from its “requires improvement” rating two years ago to the highest possible rating after a recent Ofsted inspection.

And Burnett Fields in Holme Top was also awarded the top rating after inspectors visited last month.

Inspectors highlighted the turnaround at the Canterbury nursery, which is in one of the city’s most deprived areas and with over 180 children on its roll, since the critical inspection in 2014.

The report says over half the children who attend the nursery do not speak English as their first language, and inspectors praised how the nursery supported those children, adding “support is instantly put into place and is very effective, which means that rapid progress and the highest levels of achievement for all children are maintained”.

The report adds: “The senior leadership team and the governing body have changed the culture in the school to one of continuous improvement and high aspirations for teaching and for children’s achievement.”

Executive head Duncan Jacques said: “This report is brilliant for the centre and is testimony to the staff’s hard work and effort over a number of years.”

Jackie Bracewell, head of schools at Canterbury, said “I think the report truly reflects how wonderful the children and families of the Canterbury estate are.”

The report into Burnett Fields, which has 78 children on its roll, said staff there “have an outstanding commitment to inclusion”.

It adds: “Staff’s wonderful knowledge of children ensures that each child has a uniquely tailored learning journey.”

A spokesman for Children’s Place, which runs the nursery, said: “We are very proud that children make consistently very good progress and exemplary progress in significant elements, meaning they are extremely well prepared for school.

“Our aim is to provide children with early years experiences that last a lifetime of the highest quality and it is wonderful that the hard work and dedication of the Burnett Fields staff team has been recognised by Ofsted. They do an amazing job.”
