A YOUNG motorist caught as part of a crackdown on dangerous driving in Bradford district has admitted doing more than twice the speed limit on Bingley bypass.

Officers working as part of Operation Steerside clocked Joshua Miles speeding at 105mph on a 50mph stretch of the dual carriageway on May 4 this year.

The 22-year-old’s case was referred to Bradford and Keighley Magistrates’ Court for a Single Justice Procedure hearing after Miles pleaded guilty.

A court spokesman said the case had now been adjourned until August 3 for magistrates to consider a driving ban for Miles, who lives in Chesterfield, Derbyshire.

Miles’ case was one of seven Steerside-related Single Justice Procedure hearings at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

Three other drivers also pleaded guilty to speeding on the Bingley bypass.

Muhammad Hashemi was caught travelling at 84mph on the 50mph stretch of the dual carriageway on May 4.

The 21-year-old, of Nab Wood Grove, Shipley, had his case adjourned until August 1 while magistrates consider whether to give him a driving ban.

Tauqeer Abbas, 21, was also caught doing 84mph in the 50mph zone, but on May 9. He pleaded guilty and magistrates will decide on August 1 whether to disqualify Abbas, of Manningham Lane, Bradford, from driving.

On May 18, Noman Ali was caught driving at 78mph in the 50mph zone of the bypass.

The 30-year-old pleaded guilty and had six penalty points put on his driving licence. Ali, of Aberford Road in Wakefield, was fined £440 and must also pay a £44 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

Three drivers caught speeding on the 40mph Canal Road in Bradford were also dealt with after being caught by Steerside officers.

Jonathan Haslam, 22, of Bowness Avenue, Bradford, was caught driving at 74mph on May 18. He was found guilty and had his case adjourned until August 1 for magistrates to consider disqualifying him from driving.

Fraz Khaliq, of Nab Wood Drive in Shipley, was found guilty of speeding and fined £440 and given six penalty points. He must also pay a £44 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

The 26-year-old was caught travelling at 72mph on May 18.

Rahees Iqbal, 22, of Northfield Crescent, Cottingley, pleaded guilty to speeding. He was caught doing 69mph on Canal Road on May 18.

He was fined £75 and must pay an £80 victim surcharge and £85 costs. He also had six points put on his licence.
