THE daughter of two pensioners whose car was hit by a motorbike has spoken of her parents’ shock after the bike was swiftly collected by two men in a van after the accident.

Michael and Beverley Duffy’s vehicle was smashed into by a speeding bike, which was picked up minutes later.

A 22-year-old and a 17-year-old, who were on the bike, were injured and taken to hospital for treatment.

The accident happened as the couple was waiting to pull out of Wrose Avenue, Wrose, in a Nissan Micra on Thursday.

The front end of the Duffy’s car destroyed, leading to it being written off.

Mel Bedford-Wyatt, the daughter of Mr and Mrs Duffy, said her parents were both shaken by the incident.

“There were two youths riding on the pavement, and as my dad was coming out of Wrose Avenue to the junction they just went straight into the bonnet,” she said.

“The car was stationary and just waiting at the junction to pull onto Wrose Road, and they went straight into it.

“One of the youths had a broken leg and the other had head injuries, and they were both taken away to hospital.

“One of the neighbours who saw it happen thought the bike was travelling at around 60 miles per hour and she saw friends of the two youths’ come and take the bike away, just leaving the two guys on the floor.

“She said a van pulled up within a couple of minutes of the crash happening, and two guys jumped out of the van, put the bike in the back and just drove off.

“My mum and dad were a bit shaken up but were checked off and were fine, they were more upset about the damage to their car, which has been completely written off.”

Onlooker, Susan McAvoy, who owns the Cake Couture shop in Wrose Road, said she saw more than four ambulances and police cars after the accident, which happened around 20 metres from her shop.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “We received a call just after 4pm on Thursday about a road traffic collision in Wrose Avenue, Shipley, between a blue Nissan Micra and two people on a motorbike.

“One of the men on the bike was 22-years-old, and the other was a 17-year-old boy. One suffered facial injuries with the other sustaining leg injuries, and both were taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary.”
