ALEX Mellor is excited by the appointment of Rohan Smith and reckons there is plenty of young talent for the new Bulls boss to cast his eye over.

Smith presided over a victory at Sheffield in his first game in charge of the club last week and will now aim to conjure another win against fierce promotion rivals Leigh at the Summer Bash on Saturday.

Mellor said: "Rohan clearly knows his stuff and likes to work individually with players and his attention to detail comes across well, so I'm enjoying working with him.

"We've got a close-knit squad but with Rohan here, I'm sure there will be changes in training and to the structure of things.

"But the lads will stay the same because we are really close and I'm sure that will not change."

Academy graduates Ethan Ryan, Joe Lumb, Ross Oakes and Jacob Trueman have all made their first-team debuts this season and Mellor believes there are plenty more prospects in Bradford's under-19 side.

Back-rower Mellor, who progressed through the ranks at Odsal himself, said: "When you go and watch the academy side, there is a lot of talent there.

"They're all hungry for it by the way they play, so I'd advise fans to get down and watch them when they can.

"It's good to see – not just for them but also for the club that they're coming through into the first team.

"Ethan Ryan and Joe Lumb have come into the first team this year and done really well and we've had other young lads training with us recently who look really good. It bodes well for the future of the club."
