POLICE are hunting thieves who stole a teenager's "pride and joy" scooter from the car park of a pub in Wibsey.

The theft, which happened last night at about 9.45pm, was captured on CCTV at the White Swan on High Street.

Becky Taylor, mum of scooter owner Jordan, 16, said: "It is his pride and joy. He has got his independence on that little thing."

Mrs Taylor said her son was in the pub keeping a friend company while he was working. She said the scooter had been parked up for about an hour.

"He went outside at about 9.30pm to check on it," said Mrs Taylor. "He went back in, said his goodbyes and then went outside again and it was gone."

The CCTV captures a white Transit van - which is believed to have false number plates - entering the car park, turning round and reversing towards the scooter. Someone then gets out of the back and puts the Aprilia SR50 scooter - registration plate PN05 UGR - in the van.

"They just don't care," said Mrs Taylor. "It is worth about £500 or £600, but it is his way of getting around.

"He has got exams at college this week and the scooter is how he gets there and back."

Police confirmed they were investigating and appealed for witnesses, or anyone with information on the theft, to come forward. Call police on 101, quoting crime reference number 13160219069.
