OXENHOPE Straw Race is celebrating its 40th anniversary.

The event has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity over the years.

It involves teams – many in fancy dress – carrying bales of straw through the village and downing drinks at pubs en route.

Entries are now open for this year's event on July 3.

"We're really pleased to be able to announce that the Waggon and Horses will be hosting the start for us after a two-year absence," said a spokesman.

"Our sincerest thanks go to the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway for stepping most ably into the breach for the past two years. If it wasn't for them, local charities would have been denied almost £30,000.

"This is an exciting year for us and one we hope to be able to commemorate in some way."
