A 49-year-old man has been injured in a daylight assault in the city centre.

Emergency services were called to Sunbridge Road at 5.16pm today.

A man, who did not wish to be named, said: "The paramedics seemed to be treating someone in an ambulance and the cops were going round asking people what happened and taking statements."

The extent of the man's injuries are not known at this time. "Enquiries are continuing," said a police spokesman.
